History
The Bana Project was founded by Holly Harris and Camille Nelson in September 2005.

2001 - 2005

Holly Harris served as a counselor at Camp Rising Sun, a summer-long leadership program for teenagers from around the world, sponsored by the Louis August Jonas Foundation (www.lajf.org). Through this experience, she recognized the power of these youth to create needed/critical/essential change in their own communities.

2004

Driven by her passion to help children, Harris obtained an ARISE grant from the Louis August Jonas Foundation to assist in an orphanage. She partnered with Rising Sun campers from South Africa and for three months, nurtured and taught the orphans of the Leamogetswe Safety Home in Atteridgeville, South Africa. Due to their experiences in South Africa, the team realized the need for these humanitarian efforts to continue through local programs and community volunteers.

September 2005

The Bana Project, a non-profit organization based in Salt Lake City, Utah, was formed by Harris, Nelson, along with a group of university students, supported by local business leaders. Team Bana is a collection of talented volunteers dedicated to making a difference in the world.

December 2005 - April 2006

Four members of Team Bana will travel to South Africa, supported in part by an ARISE grant from the Louis August Jonas Foundation. They will implement the Bana REACH Programs at Leamogetswe Safety Home. These programs will be sustained by local members of Team South Africa and local volunteers.

2006 - 2007

Bana's plans include REACH program implementations in Ecuador and Peru.
