South Africa

Beginning January 2006, The Bana Project will be working with Leamogetswe Safety Home. Leamogestwe Safety Home is located in Tswane, South Africa in a small township called Atteridgeville. It is run by a lady named Mrs Matlakala and her son David. The main occupants of this orphanage are abandoned and abused children ranging in age between 0 and 18 years old, most of them suffering from AIDS. They are usually brought in by social workers and the police. There are currently about 45 children. The home is run purely from donations and the kindness of volunteers. There is no regular form of income. Team South Africa is recruiting local volunteers to assist in implementing and sustaining the REACH programs at Leamogetswe.
